Enforcement authorities
The matters of debtors are handled by an enforcement officer in charge of the debtor’s case at the unit, or by an enforcement officer in the debt-collection team.
If the enforcement officer in charge of the matter changes, the debtor is notified of the new enforcement officer in charge and their contact details. This information is also available through the Electronic Enforcement Service. The appointment of the enforcement officer in charge is not open to appeal.
Each enforcement officer exercises independent decision-making power in carrying out enforcements.
According to the law, enforcement officers include the Enforcement Inspectors of the Basic Enforcement Unit and Senior Enforcement Inspectors of the Extensive and Special Enforcement Units, the Senior Enforcement Officers serving as their supervisors, and the Chief Enforcement Officers. In Åland, the corresponding titles are Senior Enforcement Inspector and Provincial Senior Enforcement Officer.
The Director General in charge of National Enforcement Authority Finland and the Deputy Director General are also enforcement officers within the meaning of the law.
